RE: Paradise Pointe Fifth Wheels

I have a 2005 and it came with a three way valve and tube for pulling anti freeze into the system.

RE: Lifting a 5ver?

I had a local trailer repair shop raise mine. They added a rectangular frame made of 3 inch square steel tubing. They welded that to the original frame and reattached the axles to the addition, making the rig three inches higher. Flipping axles was not an option. Now, instead of 12'6", I am at 12'9". My rig now rides level and I don't worry about bumping the bed rails.

RE: Laughlin NV to Joshua Tree Natl Park

We did Amboy and National Trails on the way back home last April. Good roads, very little traffic. You do cross over a low pass on the Amboy Road about 15 miles South of Amboy. Make sure you fuel up in Needles area since there is very little between Needles and Twentynine Palms.

RE: MPPT setup question

I've had the Blue Sky MPPT controller running for several years with a generator contributing part of the time and it has not caused any issues. I understand your thinking about each affecting the other, but the bottom line is that the batteries get charged quicker with both than with just one.

RE: Bike Roof Rack

Does the truck roof mount hurt or compromise the seals and allow leaks? Our 5th wheel has the fiberglass molded rear cap that does not have a bike rack hitch. Thanks for any feedback.
Leaking has never been a problem, but it does allow more airflow through the seal which you can hear, particularly when there is a cross wind. In addition, there is some added wind noise. I'm always listening to the radio or music and it doesn't ever bother me but it is there.
Also, carrying bicycles does not affect turning radius at all. Even carrying a 17 foot canoe, there is no possible way to make contact between the two.
The nice things about roof racks: they don't obstruct your vision, they don't fall off the back or wreck your frame, they can go with you any where you take the tow rig. The bad: getting the bike up on the rack and some wind noise.

RE: Passports

Better to have and not need than to need and not have...
It took only ten days for ours to arrive after we dropped off the paper work. Fill out this form, print it, and take it to a passport acceptance facility with a check or cc. They are good for ten years and will be required beginning next year.

RE: Canoe Carrier

You can use a front hitch receiver and then either a Yakima or Thule goalpost style rack along with at least one crossbar on the cab (two if you want to do bikes or skis). Any outdoor store that specializes in bikes or canoes/kayaks will carry Yakima and/or Thule components. Two suppliers that I've used are REI and Rack Warehouse. I usually only carry one canoe at a time, but two is not an issue.
There are a few on the forum who have constructed there own front rack and a couple who have built a front rack that goes all the way back to the pickup bed. A lot of work but it accmplishes the same thing.

RE: Grand Teton National Park

On the Eye Candy scale, the Tetons rank pretty high. If you can manage the time you won't be disappointed. Take a short hike around String Lake or the boat across Jenny Lake and up the trail a bit. Plenty of other trails from short to long. Catch a sunrise over Oxbow Bend for some sweet views.

RE: Jayco generator compartment-not getting power HELP

I never even noticed that receptacle on the exterior wall, and my manual (which I read cover to cover looking for the solution) said nothing about it!
RV manuals are notoriously incomplete. You are pretty much left to get your schooling from relatives, friends and the school of hard knocks :B
Glad you got it working. You'll enjoy the freedom the genny gives you.

RE: Leveling a 5er

I too level the kitchen counter. I've checked it against the floor, the frame and the bumper and they are all pretty close. If the counter isn't level, it seems to be the most noticeable. The refrigerator is a non-issue. It has a range of a few degrees wherein it is fully efficient. Again, if the counter is level the fridge is close enough.
One thing I have noticed is that if you are on soft ground, what starts out level won't be after a couple of days. It tends to rotate toward the slide side. Using long 2x10's under the wheels on both sides seems to alleviate that problem the most spreads the weight out over the most area).

RE: Toll Fee - Denver

I use it if I'm going to be transiting during rush hour. Otherwise I-25 isn't too bad. Previous post on the fees is correct. It costs me close to $30 with the fifth wheel in tow.

RE: Rifle Co. to Rawlins Wy.

Pretty casual, small state highways. No large grades. You won't see many travelers. Most traffic will be locals and oil and gas rigs.
